The program for the upcoming Green Destinations Regional Training Event is live. Slated for October 23-25, 2023, in the scenic Sveti Martin na Muri, Međimurje County, Croatia, the event promises to be an enriching experience for stakeholders in the tourism and sustainability sectors.
Day 1 of the event will begin with an opening ceremony, followed by an enlightening introduction to the work of Green Destinations and its influence on sustainable tourism in Southeastern Europe. The day will feature a keynote speech by an industry expert offering insights into the complexities of managing a sustainable tourist destination and its stakeholders. Participants will also engage in a panel discussion centered around the theme of 'Destination Management: New Challenges, New Needs.' The latter part of the day will dive deep into training sessions focusing on core criteria in sustainable tourism certification, interpretation, and reporting, all structured according to the Green Destinations standard themes. The first day will conclude with a Gala dinner, an excellent opportunity for attendees to network and discuss the day's topics informally.
On Day 2, the event will pivot towards more practical aspects of sustainable tourism. The morning will feature a keynote speech on the latest trends in sustainability in the tourism industry, followed by panel discussions showcasing best practices from various ACP Destinations and businesses. Attendees will then have the unique opportunity to partake in field visits to multiple sites in Međimurje County, allowing them to witness sustainable tourism initiatives.
The final day, Day 3, is dedicated to providing attendees with the practical tools and techniques to implement sustainable practices in their organizations or destinations. Training and workshop sessions will explore resource inventory, the appraisal of impacts, and stakeholder mapping. The event will culminate in a closing ceremony where participants will be awarded certificates, accompanied by closing speeches from the organizers.
